A PDO Thread Lift is an FDA-cleared, minimally invasive thread lifting procedure that uses small needles to insert ultra fine Polydioxanone (PDO) threads under the skin that are designed to anchor and lift the skin upwards, instantly giving the skin lifted and rejuvenated appearance. Polydioxanone is a very safe and popular soluble soft tissue suture that has been used in surgeries since 1980. It has been discovered that as these sutures dissolve, it causes the skin to create an influx of fibroblasts and collagen tissue, which promotes long term results. PDO Threads are most commonly placed in the lower face to lift the jowls and the upper face to lift your eyebrows.
A topical and injected anesthetic will be used prior to the treatment to ensure patient comfortability. The PDO threads are inserted using an extended cannula. This threading procedure can be done numerous times to get the right lift. Despite lifting the skin, the threads cannot correct severe laxity. The creation of collagen drives cellular renewal as the threads dissolve after 6 to 9 months, keeping the skin taut, elevated, and youthful. Although PDO Threads are most commonly placed in the lower face to lift the jowls and the upper face to lift the brows, it can be applied to a variety of body parts, including:
Plastic surgery has used polydioxanone/PDO, a fully absorbable barbed suture, for more than 20 years. PDO Threads address drooping skin while promoting the development of collagen and elastin, giving the user a more youthful appearance. The minimally invasive process enhances the structure and texture of the skin without the need for surgery. Correct thread placement virtually eliminates the possibility of scarring.
When you come in for a consultation, our provider will spend 20 to 30 minutes discussing your objectives for PDO Threads. Our provider will never give you more threads than you require, and she will suggest a new solution if she thinks PDO Threads aren’t the greatest choice for you and your objectives. If so, she will estimate the number of threads you will receive (10–12 per side, to begin with, is the minimum guideline), and our team will estimate the total process cost for you.
PDO threads are absorbable and start to degrade on their own after six to eight months. The results of the threads will remain in place and even become more prominent and natural as the threads dissolve and encourage more collagen. The new collagen and elastin fibers generated after the threads fully dissolve will keep the skin taut and elevated for an extra 12 months.
Be prepared to spend an hour to an hour and a half at our facility. After one of our staff members has checked you in, we’ll bring you to a room and snap some “Before” pictures. The consultation will start if you plan it for the same day as your treatment. After the consultation, a staff member will apply a topical numbing cream to the area where the threads will be placed. The cream is left on for 15 to 20 minutes before being removed. For added comfort, a numbing injection is offered. Our specialist will start the process and insert the PDO Threads after you have finished getting ready. After the threads are placed, free radio frequency therapy will be provided to reduce any possible swelling and discomfort. A staff member will take the “After” images, and you can go.
As your body adjusts to something new inside of it, swelling is usual for a week or two following the treatment. Once the swelling subsides, you will be about to experience the full benefits of PDO threads. For the following 4-6 weeks, the PDO will continue to lift or create collagen.
